Isle of Bute

Isle of Bute - a rugby friendship of 40 years and more

Since the advance party of Kay, Bicker, Noddings, McLeod and Paton arrived in Pentyrch in 1980, friendships between our two communities began to form and were truly forged during the first official visit of the Isle of Bute RFC to Parc y Dwrlyn in 1982.

40 years on, the rugby rivalry remains strong - albeit between our national sides now. In February 2022 a special weekend of celebration was held to mark the 40th anniversary of the first visit.

We're currently investigating the best way to capture those many stories and and share those that are suitable for public consumption!

You might also want to take a look at the Bute 90 gallery of images from visits during the late 80s and early 90s.

Over the years, many gifts and rugby memories have been exchanged. Here are some that have been displayed at Pentyrch RFC.
