Local rivals Pontyclun RFC were the visitors for this derby match. Pontyclun pressed hard from the outset and certainly had the upper hand in the scrums. Although the visitors had most of the territorial advantage in the first half good defence by the home team kept them at bay. Pentyrch managed to get into the visitors 22 on several occasions but squandered an easy penalty chance as well as not always keeping ball in hand at crucial stages. The game remained scoreless until the final ten minutes of the first half. Pontyclun crossed for two tries, with one converted before Pentyrch responded with a try from Will Adams-Jones, which was converted by Morgan Hayward. With the last movement of the first half Pontyclun scored a third, unconverted try, to lead 7-17 at the interval.
The second half was a complete reversal of the first, with Pentyrch dominating territory and most of the play. Again, good attacking play was thwarted at critical stages when the ball was lost. The pressure finally resulted in the home team crossing in the corner. Nathan Williams touching down a grubber kick in the corner, which Morgan Hayward excellently converted. Despite the continuous pressure the Pontyclun defence held sound, the final score being 14-17, with Pentyrch earning a losing bonus point.
