Pentyrch hosted St.Josephs RFC, their first home league game against the visitors in several years. The home side started very positively and virtually had all the territory and possession in the first fifteen minutes. Despite this the visitors defence held solid and Pentyrch failed to take advantage of their good start. Playing with a strong wind at their backs St.Josephs came back into the game. Midway through the half they scored a pushover try, which was converted. A further unconverted try near the interval gave the visitors a 0-12 lead at half time. Pentyrch lost three players to injury in the first half, which didn’t help their cause.
St.Josephs started the second half as they finished the first but gradually the home side got back into the game. A good try by home ‘man of the match’ Will Adams-Jones, and a penalty goal by Morgan Hayward brought Pentyrch back into the game at 8-12. Pentyrch continued to press but began making several unforced errors. Unnecessary long balls were thrown in the three quarter line and lineouts, carried adrift by the strong wind, resulting in turnover ball to the opposition. As the half progressed first up tackles were also missed and this eventually led to St.Josephs scoring two late unconverted tries. A bitterly disappointing result for Pentyrch RFC but a deserved win for the visitors.
