Fairwater RFC v Pentyrch RFC

Lucky it was a nice day, as the game didn’t kick off until nearly 3:30pm. The referee was delayed due to an accident on the M4. Pentyrch started strongly and had most of the possession and territory in the first quarter. The home defence was solid and as Fairwater came back into the game the Pentyrch defence stood as resolute. A good game of rugby in the first half but there was no score at half time.

The beginning of the second half saw twenty points being scored in the first fifteen minutes. The hosts converted a penalty goal to take the lead and soon afterwards kicked through to score a converted try. Pentyrch fought back when Morgan Hayward kicked a penalty goal and soon afterwards, following a good backs move, Mike Farnham out-paced his opposite number to score a try under the posts. Morgan Hayward converted. Both teams subsequently exchanged penalty goals but it was Morgan Hayward who succeeded with his to give Pentyrch the victory by 10-13. A good all round team performance, both in attack and defence.

The Development Team beat Ynysowen 27-0. The Youth XV had no game.

Next Saturday, 31 January, the 1st XV host St.Joseph’s RFC. The Youth XV are playing Beaufort youth 2.30 KO and the Development team have no game.
