In good, but blustery conditions, the teams that finished third and fourth in the league last season played out an enjoyable, if occasionally scrappy, game at Clwb y Dwrlyn. Pentyrch opened the scoring within five minutes of the kick off when, from a set piece, Dylan Atkins broke through the centre of the field to score under the posts. Alex More added the conversion and soon afterwards slotted a penalty goal. The home side were very dominant in the scrums and won most of the possession and territory in the first half. Midway through the half, following pressure near the visitors line, Pentyrch were awarded another penalty. Captain Tom Marley took a quick tap kick and sent out a long pass to Dylan Atkins who went over for an unconverted try. The score at the interval was 15-0.

Penygraig came more into the game in the second half but Pentyrch continued to defend strongly. Eventually the pressure told and Penygraig scored a converted try under the posts. Midway through the half, with Pentyrch pressing, the ball was swung along the back line with Tom Marley scoring a well worked unconverted try out wide. Within five minutes it looked as if Ethan Denty had scored the bonus point try for the hosts but the referee deemed the ball had not been grounded. With the last move of the game the visitors scored an unconverted try to make the final score Pentyrch 20 - 12 Penygraig.

 The 2nd XV won their first league game of the season at Cathays RFC by 29-14, scoring five tries in the process. The youth XV had no game.

 Next Saturday, 15 September, the 1st XV host Old Illtydians in the first round of the WRU Bowl. The 2nd XV hope to arrange a friendly game whilst the Youth XV travel to Cardiff Quins. Games kick off at 2:30pm. This day also has the Players Reunion being held in the clubhouse.
