The first game of the season was at newly relegated Penarth RFC. Conditions were good and during the first half Pentyrch had more of the possession and territory despite the scrums not functioning well. The visitors took the lead after about 15 minutes when full back Tom James slotted a penalty goal. Pentyrch continued to press the hosts and this resulted in captain Tom Marley crossing for a well worked try, with Tom James adding the conversion. The hosts scored through a penalty goal but within 5 minutes, and despite loosing a player to a yellow card, Pentyrch scored a further try through second row Will Cole, with Tom James again adding the conversion. With the last play of the first half Penarth scored a converted try under the posts to make the interval score 17-10.
Pentyrch began the second half where they left off the first and in the first 15 minutes extended their lead through Tom James slotting over two penalty goals. Penarth decided to wake up and controlled the remainder of the second half. Pentyrch defended well and restricted the hosts to a penalty goal and an unconverted try to win the match 18-23.
The 2nd XV had their match postponed as Canton RFC could not field a team. The Youth XV beat Abertillery RFC 8-5 at home in a friendly fixture.
