LLandaff RFC v Pentyrch RFC – 16 December 2017
Llandaff RFC was the venue for this match and the visitors made an immediate impact. A long kick towards the touchline saw Dylan Atkins score an unconverted try within two minutes of the kick off. Inside of ten minutes Ollie Joyce touched down near the posts and Alex Moore added the conversion. Pentyrch were by far the strongest side in all facets of the game and played open rugby as much as possible on a sticky pitch. The hosts began to settle down following an indifferent start and it was only some good defence that kept the visitors at bay. The pressure told towards the end of the first half when Ollie Joyce scored his second try, as did Dylan Atkins just before the interval. Alex Moore converting both. With the try bonus point already secured before the interval the score at the break was 0-26.
Most spectators expected the second half to mirror the first but Llandaff had different ideas. To their credit they competed much better in the second half and earned themselves more possession and territory. Midway through the half they converted a penalty goal but this was soon cancelled out by a storming try from visiting hooker Macaulay Greedy, who ran through several tackles in a twenty meter run to score his unconverted try. The hosts scored a converted consolation try towards the end of the game, the final result ending in a 10-31 win to Pentyrch.
Due to the Christmas break the next round of games take place on Saturday, 30 December. The 1st XV play at Fairwater RFC. Kick off is 2:30pm. Neither the 2nd XV or the youth have a game on this date.
