Pentyrch travelled to near neighbours Pontyclun RFC with a much depleted team due to injuries. In an entertaining first half the home side scored two unconverted tries with Pentyrch RFC slotting a penalty goal, through Morgan Hayward, with the final action of the first half.
At the beginning of the second half Pontyclun RFC scored a further unconverted try before Morgan Hayward slotted his second penalty goal. The hosts added a fourth unconverted try before captain, Rhys Thomas, finished off a slick attack by Pentyrch RFC to score a try, which Hayward converted. Further injuries during the game reduced Pentyrch RFC to playing with only fourteen players for the last ten minutes. The hosts added a further three tries, converting two. Sandwiched between the tries was another for the visitors, scored by Will Adams-Jones, which Hayward again converted. The final score was 39-20 to the hosts. A disappointing result for Pentyrch but a match where the players competed well and put up a gutsy performance. Nick Jones received the Pentyrch “Man of the Match’ awarded by the Pontyclun Vice Presidents Group.
