Pentyrch RFC v Cowbridge RFC – 7 October 2017
Cowbridge were the visitors for this second round game of the WRU Bowl. The team sit on top of Division 3B East Central and their performance reflected their present standing in that league. Both teams wanted to play an expansive game but both defences were equal to what was thrown at them. The visitors had the upper hand in the scrums during the first half but Pentyrch improved in this area in the second half and shaded the line-outs throughout the game. The half time score was 6-6, with Alex Moore kicking two penalties for the home side.
Alex Moore added a further penalty early in the second half. Cowbridge retaliated with an unconverted try mid way through the second half but this was cancelled out when Ollie Joyce crossed for the home side ten minutes later. Alex Moore narrowly failed with the conversion. As in last weeks game, the home side had sufficient possession to have won this game more comfortably but made a string of silly errors throughout the game. The final score was 14-11 to Pentyrch, with Nathan Williams winning the VPs ‘Man of the Match’ award. Pentyrch will be at home again in the next round of the WRU Bowl on 28 October, when they play Deri RFC.
The 2nd XV had a great 50-7 win at home against Whitchurch RFC. The youth team didn’t have a game.
Next Saturday, 14 October, the 1st XV return to league duty when they visit Gwernyfed RFC. Both the 2nd XV and youth teams are at home, against Llandaff
