Fixture

The match was played on the 2^nd XV pitch due to the very wet conditions. Further heavy showers prior to the game contributed to the mud-bath that developed in some parts of the pitch. Pentyrch played with the wind behind them in the first half and had the better of possession and territory. The scrums were even but the home side lost several lineouts, some in critical positions. The visitors took the lead with a penalty goal after fifteen minutes but soon after home No.8 Rhys Thomas crossed for an unconverted try. Pentyrch tried to play their usual brand of open rugby but the conditions made this difficult. One occasion when they did they created a three to one overlap and a certain try would have been scored had not the final visiting defender deliberately knocked the ball on. The referee awarded a penalty try and the interval score was 12-3.

In the second half the visitors moved to more of a drive and mauling game, which was difficult to defend in the conditions. They also began to take charge in the scrums. They scored two tries, one converted, to move into a slight lead midway through the second half. Pentyrch retaliated with a good move that moved them to near the visitors line. From a lineout Pentyrch used a driving maul themselves,  which the referee judged was deliberately pulled down and awarded a further penalty try. With only minutes left the visitors moved to within the home line, were awarded a scrum and earned themselves a pushover try, which was converted. The final score was 19-22, with Pentyrch earning a loosing bonus point.

Both the 2^nd XV and youth games were cancelled due to the weather conditions.

Next Saturday, 27 January, the 1^st XV travel to near neighbours Taffs Well. The 2^nd XV is away at CRCC whilst the youth XV play at home against Penarth RFC. All games kick off at 2:30pm.
