MJ12 Day a great success

Last Saturday, 26 February 2022, the Club celebrated the life of former player, captain, and coach, Matty John

In doing so, almost £2000 were raised for the Cardiff City Hospice.

A family day, full of fun on and off the pitch, saw three matches played in front of a packed Clubhouse.

A huge thanks to all those that supported the day through volunteering their time, sponsoring the inflatables, providing raffle prizes, playing, or just turning up to support. Thanks to our bar team who worked relentlessly on one of our busiest days in recent years -  a sign of just how high we hold Matty's memory.

Match programme message from the Secretary

Welcome to a very special day at Clwb Rygbi Pentyrch RFC, and especially to Lyndsey, George, and Mia, our U9s, the players on both sides of the memorial match, sponsors, and representatives from the Cardiff City Hospice.

Matty was a teammate and friend, who gave a huge amount to Pentrych RFC. On the field, he was a skilful and intelligent footballer, backed up with determination and grit. He was a leader, a player you could turn to when the going was tough. More often than not, he’d calmly return a half grin through the mud and get on whatever it was that needed to be done. He was the same off the pitch too. A friend who could be relied on.
Some thanks are due, in particular to those that have sponsored us, to Phil Smith and the organising group, and to Trish and her team in the Clubhouse.

We are also very pleased to be supporting the Cardiff City Hospice. Please give generously to this fantastic charity.

Today is a day to remember Matty with some of things he loved, family, friendship, and rugby. Whilst it will inevitably be poignant at times, it is a day for smiles and celebration, to remember a man that gave us, and Pentyrch RFC, so much.
