Wattstown RFC v Pentyrch RFC

It was great to get back to league rugby following the autumn internationals.Pentyrch RFC faced a tough away fixture at fellow strugglers Wattstown RFC and a tough fixture it turned out to be. Pentyrch got off to a great start. A penalty on the half-way line resulted in a lineout on the home team’s five meter line. A clean catch saw the pack drive over, with captain Rhys Williams getting the touchdown. Morgan Hayward  converted. This score should have signaled further points being scored by the visitors. Instead, a dogged defence by Wattstown and the inability of the referee to leave the game flow resulted in the game being played within the two 22 meter lines. Pentyrch received a yellow card at the very end of the first half, with the home side slotting over the resulting penalty. The interval score was 3-7.

The stop/start flow of the game continued in the second half. Pentyrch RFC had most of the game and Morgan Hayward slotted two penalties extending the visitors lead. Another yellow card ten minutes from the end saw Pentyrch again reduced to fourteen players. On this occasion the visitors did not concede any points but scored a converted try themselves, with Morgan Hayward going over and adding the conversion. A much needed win for the visitors which see’s them moving up to seventh in the league.

The Youth XV played Llanishen RFC at home, going down 14-17 in an excellent game. The Development Team had no game.
