Pentyrch RFC v Gwernyfed RFC

Pentyrch  hosted Gwernyfed RFC at Parc y Dwrlyn, one of several teams, like Pentyrch, finding themselves at the wrong end of the league table. The visitors got off to a flying start, scoring an unconverted try within the first five minutes. Once Pentyrch settled they began playing their usual brand of open rugby. Following several attacks on the visitors line Lewis Edwards crossed for a try, which was converted by Barry Topping-Morris. The hosts continued to take the initiative and midway through the first half Mike Owen beat several players to cross in the corner, superbly converted by Morgan Hayward. The visitors converted a penalty goal just before the interval and the half time score was 14-8.

Pentyrch were again found sleeping at the start of the second half, when Gwernyfed scored a further unconverted try. A converted penalty by Morgan Hayward settled any nerves and soon afterwards Mike Owen scored his second try, converted by Morgan Hayward. Several other try scoring opportunities were squandered when overlaps were not used but eventually the home side got their fourth, unconverted, try when Josh Simmons crossed in the corner. Gwernyfed never gave up the chase and scored their third try late in the game. At the final whistle Pentyrch were worthy winners 29-18. This was the first occasion this season the team had earned back to back wins, having beaten Maesteg Celtic in the Swalec Plate the previous week 21-36.
