Following last Saturday’s home win in the WRU Bowl competition, when Pentyrch beat Treherbert RFC 26-10, the team travelled to Treharris RFC for the first away league game of the season. Pentyrch were by far the dominant team in the first half, securing the vast majority of possession and territory. The pack pushed the hosts off their own ball several times in the scrum and turned down penalty opportunities in front of the posts and opted for scrums in the hope of getting tries. It was only slight handling errors that led to the decisions not being executed. Midway through the first half the pressure paid off. A lineout near the hosts line resulted in Dan Howorth touching down having been driven over the line in a rolling maul. Morgan Hayward added the conversion. Within minutes Treharris drew level, with what was their first visit inside the visitors twenty-two. Sloppy defence led to the try. Pentyrch continued to dominate the game and before half time a good backs move resulted in right wing Nathan Williams scoring near the posts, with Morgan Hayward again adding the conversion. The interval score was 7-14.

Treharris opted to begin the second half with passive scrums. This allowed them to have much more possession in the second half. The visitors kept to their game plan and it was Pentyrch who extended their lead early in the half when Rhys Thomas scored an unconverted try, again from a rolling maul. The hosts put up a much stronger performance in the second period but the Pentyrch defence held solid. Pentyrch extended their lead when Nathan Williams picked up a loose ball, following a breakdown in the host’s attack, to race away and score under the posts. Morgan Hayward converted. With the last move of the game Treharris managed a converted try, leaving the final score 14-26. Pentyrch were worthy winners and secured their third consecutive try bonus point win.

The 2^nd XV hosted Caerleon, whose 1^st XV play in Division 1East. Pentyrch secured a great win by 29-5. The Youth XV played at Penarth RFC in a league game but were well beaten 47-12. They travelled with only 14 players,10 of whom were first year youth players.

Next week the 1^st XV host Abercwmboi RFC. Neither the Youth XV or 2^nd XV have a game.
