By Harry Rees

With a hint of rain in the air at the Diamond Ground the Quins kicked off and Tyrchs made a good catch and progressed up the field. Under pressure the Quins conceded a penalty. Morgan Hayward found a good touch deep into Quins half and the Tyrchs won the resulting line out but were called back for an offence. Quins made ground following the free kick but were then themselves penalised. Morgan Hayward again found a good touch and following the resulting lineout the Tyrchs exerted a great deal of pressure. The Quins put up a sterling defence but eventually it told and following two dominant scrums the Tyrchs were awarded a penalty which Morgan Hayward successfully converted. Quins 0 Tyrchs 3.

Quins restarted the game and were awarded a penalty for what looked like obstruction. After successfully finding a good touch Quins unfortunately lost the initiative by not throwing in properly. The Tyrchs won the resulting scrum and following a storming run by Dylan Atkins were awarded a penalty. Following another good touch finder the Tyrchs set up camp in the Quins 22 applying tremendous pressure on the Quins defence with them conceding a number of penalties. The Tyrchs chose to take scrums and following some really messy play one of the Quins players was yellow carded. The Tyrchs again chose to take a scrum, won it, ran the ball into the Quins 22 and kicked the ball through the defence. Quins scrambled back and managed to minor the ball. Quins took the 22 drop out and found a good touch near half way. The Tyrchs, following the line out, again pressured the defence and were awarded a penalty. On this occasion the kick at goal was unsuccessful but immediately following the resulting 22 drop out the Tyrchs ran the ball down the left hand side with Fin Barber drawing a defender before sending Robbie Thomas over for the first try of the afternoon. The conversion was unsuccessful.

Quins restarted the game and following a good catch by the Tyrchs won the ball back, kicked the ball into the Tyrchs half only allowing the Tyrchs to immediately attack and following another period of sustained pressure the Tyrchs were awarded a penalty which was successfully converted by Morgan Hayward.

Quins again restarted the game, Dylan Atkins made a good catch and the Tyrchs were attacking again. The sustained pressure took its toll and following a penalty and successful lineout the Tyrchs were awarded a scrum directly in front of the posts. The referee having warned the Quins Captain about repeatedly conceding penalties in desperate attempts to stop the Tyrchs scrum moving towards their line awarded the Tyrchs a penalty try.

Quins 0 Tyrchs 18.The referee then blew for half time.

Half Time Quins 0 Tyrchs 18

The Tyrchs kicked off the second half and following another good catch the Quins ran the ball back strongly and were awarded a penalty. Having found a good touch they lost the following lineout, got the ball back and ran it again. Good defence by the Tyrchs kept them out with the Tyrchs being awarded a scrum for a knock on. The Tyrchs won the scrum and ran the ball but were penalised for crossing. The Quins then pressured the Tyrchs defence for a good 7/8 minutes and again only sterling defence kept them out. Quins were awarded a penalty and only just failed to score a try. At that point the referee deemed that a Tyrchs player had illegally played the ball and gave the Tyrchs a yellow card. Quins redoubled their efforts and after a period of sustained pressure the referee gave the Tyrchs another yellow card. Quins found a good touch and following the resulting lineout scored a try which was not converted.

Quins 5 Tyrchs 18.

The Tyrchs restarted the game and following a substitution had two sets of brothers on the field. Quins were then awarded a penalty, found a good touch but lost the following lineout. The game then went back and fore with Quins being awarded a number of lineouts and scrums. Quins were struggling to get out of their 22 and following another scrum the ball came loose and was hacked on to near the Quins line. With a try seemingly imminent Quins last line of defence went down on the ball and another Tyrchs player was yellow carded for not letting the player up. Quins cleared the ball up to the half way line, won the resulting lineout but conceded a penalty in mid field. Morgan Hayward found a good touch; the Tyrchs won the lineout and kept the pressure on the Quins. Rhys Thomas nearly reached the line but Quins managed to clear their lines again. The ball ran out of play and the Tyrchs won the following lineout and again pressured the Quins defence. Quins defended strongly as they had done all afternoon and dislodged the ball earning themselves a scrum. Quins won the scrum and put in a good kick upon field which was well caught by Gruff Roberts. Gruff then set up an attack with the Tyrchs forwards supporting him Quins conceded a penalty just outside their 22. Morgan Hayward successfully kicked the goal.

Quins 5 Tyrchs 21.

Quins restarted the game and following a missed kick to touch the ball was kicked dead and the referee blew for full time. Both teams deserve credit for playing such a good standard in deteriorating conditions.
