Match Report Pentyrch v Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd on 6^th October 2019

On a clear sunny afternoon with the pitch looking in good condition albeit with six foot grass in places Clwb kicked off. The Tyrchs made a very good exit clearing the ball up to nearly half way. At the resulting lineout Clwb knocked the ball on. After resetting the scrum the Tyrchs won the ball and kicked the ball up field into the Clwb 22 and following a short clearance by Clwb were awarded a lineout. Unfortunately the Tyrchs were penalised for an infringement and Clwb found a good touch. The Tyrchs won the resulting lineout and following some strong running Fin Barber scored a good try in the right hand corner. The conversion was unsuccessful making the score Tyrchs 5 Clwb 0.

Clwb restarted the game and following a very good clearance kick by David Jones the Tyrchs stole the ball at the resulting lineout. The Tyrchs looking more confident and positive than in recent weeks ran the ball, into the Clwb 22 with Dylan Atkins putting in a strong run. At the breakdown the Tyrchs were awarded a penalty, chose to take a scrum, Rhys Thomas broke blind creating some space for Michael Herbert to score. The conversion was again unsuccessful so the score remained at Tyrchs 10 Clwb 0.

Clwb again restated the game and following strong pressure were awarded a scrum

5 or 6 metres out from the Tyrchs line. Very strong scrummaging by the Tyrchs caused Clwb to knock the ball on. At the resulting scrum the Tyrchs scrummaged so strongly that the referee had no option than awarding a penalty for a front row infringement. David Jones put in a very good kick up to half way and following the lineout ran the ball deep into the Clwb 22. The Tyrchs were then awarded a penalty but managed to knock the ball on. Despite that they scrummaged very strongly causing Clwb to concede a lineout in their 22. The Tyrchs now had their tails up and following the lineout ran the ball towards the posts. Showing strong ball retention the Tyrchs cleared out two defenders allowing Rhys Thomas to score. The conversion was unsuccessful making the score Tyrchs 15 Clwb 0.

Clwb again restated the game and following a knock on were awarded a scrum which they won despite strong pressure from the Tyrchs 8. The Tyrchs were then penalised and following the resulting lineout Clwb were again awarded a penalty. After kicking the ball into touch 10 meters out from the Tyrchs line Clwb exerted more pressure and were awarded another penalty. Clwb were now really encouraging each other and found another good touch nearer the Tyrchs line. Unfortunately the referee deemed that the ball was not thrown in straight allowing the Tyrchs to clear their lines. Clwb were then awarded a penalty, kicked to touch but lost the resulting lineout. The Tyrchs were then awarded a scrum and ran the ball into the Clwb 22 only to be called back for a doubtful forward pass. The referee then blew for half time.

The Tyrchs restarted the game and Clwb made can excellent exit running the ball into the Tyrchs 22. Clwb retained the ball well and following a blatant forward pass Clwb scored a try quite near the posts. The conversion was successful making the score Tyrchs 15 Clwb 7.

The Tyrchs restarted the game and following penalties being awarded to both sides and with nothing of consequence happening at the resulting lineouts the Tyrchs were awarded a scrum. Strong scrummaging allowed Ben Jones to carry well into the Clwb half causing Clwb to concede a penalty. The penalty was kicked to touch but Clwb stole the ball. Clwb were then awarded a penalty and kicked for touch. The referee deemed that the ball was not thrown in straight. The Tyrchs won the scrum and ran the ball strongly into the Clwb 22. On being awarded a penalty Rhys Thomas took it quickly and scored under the posts. The conversion was successful.

Following the restart the Tyrchs caught the ball and cleared it up to half way. Clwb won the resulting lineout and ran the ball really well only to be stopped by a last ditch tackle. At the breakdown the Tyrchs conceded a scrum and only good defensive tacking kept Clwb from scoring a try. The pressure had to give with theTyrchs twice being penalised in quick succession. Fortunately the Tyrchs were then awarded a penalty and found a very good touch deep in the Clwb 22. The Tyrchs won the lineout and ran the ball positively with Nathan Williams only just being tackled short of the line. The ball was lost in the tackle and Clwb were awarded a scrum.

The Tyrchs scrummaged extremely strongly, won the ball and Ben Jones crashed over for a try with David Jones converting making the Score Tyrchs 29 Clwb 7.

Clwb restarted the game and were awarded a penalty. Clwb found a good touch and following some strong running were awarded another penalty. The penalty was taken quickly but the game broke down after a knock on. The referee then blew up for full time. The Tyrchs showed a lot of self-belief and ran out winners 29 to 7.
