Abercwmboi RFC away

Abercwmboi Away 14/04/18

With this top of the table side looking to extend they title hopes the Pentyrch boys gave them a really hard match and with only a penalty separating the side at the end.

From the KO it was full on rugby with the home side being very powerful and there was a lot of pressure in the early stages and the Tyrchs conceded a penalty to see Aber go 3-0 up then one slipped tackle saw them score a try in the corner by winger Rikki Evans 8-0 to the home side and penalty some 3 or 4 mins later by centre Carl Gibson saw the lead extended to 11-0 and the visitors were not getting the plays they were looking for and a missed penalty did not help the cause however there was a great pressure play by Pens and it saw a great try run in by fullback Will Paddison converted by captain Barry Topping-Morris 11-7 at the score stayed like that until a minute before H/T when a further penalty saw they kicker making a turn round score 14-7.

After the break we saw the Tyrch’s start the with a lot of conviction and attack rugby was their play and if it were not for some very resolute defence by the home side we could have seen us take the lead but we did not cross the line until the 22nd minute when Nathan Williams intercepted a pass from the home forwards and he ran it in from about 70 m under the posts for a converted try 14-14, again a silly penalty saw Gibson slot it over to regain the lead 17-14 with about 15mins to go, the Tyrch’s applied loads of pressure but the home defence stood it’s ground and in the last 5 mins after a yellow card the boys camped themselves in the home half but just failed and numerous attempts to gross the white wash.

A very good game of rugby and well done the everyone for entertaining he large crowd. The seconds played away at Canton and they ran in 11 tries to win 73-0, the youth did not play this weekend
